Origin

The lesser periwinkle is an evergreen plant with beautiful blue-purple flowers that has delighted numerous writers and poets. It is found throughout Europe and forms beautiful carpets of flowers on forest and hedge edges. The plant is known to be very beneficial and was already recommended by Madame de Sévigné during the eighteenth century.

The extraction method we use ensures a high content of total alkaloids, in the form of vincamin.

For maintenance: 1 to 2 capsules daily, one in the morning and one in the evening 30 minutes before meals.

For a cure (3 to 6 months): 3 capsules daily, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening 30 minutes before meals.

Contraindication

No toxicity was reported in the literature except in cases of hypokalemia, which could lead to cardiac arrhythmias. Even if no problems have occurred, however, it is not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Toxicity

There is no known plant toxicity at the recommended dosage and no mutagenicity could be demonstrated.

Caution: make no mistake between lesser periwinkle and greater periwinkle (Vinca major) and Madagascar periwinkle (Vinca rosea), the latter two are not allowed as over the counter products and can only be given under medical supervision because of side effects and drug interactions, which can potentially become very dangerous.
